at the Church of the Village.
Confessional choreography stylized into a hybrid of sign language and medieval portraiture tapestretically interweaves Banchō Sarayashiki, Giselle's Willis, and Bluebeard's wives. The full choreography to be presented in 2026 will be in an emptied church accompanied by a harpist, live choir making bird sounds, and live cows. The movement vocabulary is designed to illicit a somatic experience in the spectator (contagious yawning/scratching, or hypnotizing circles). Dancers perform complicated quintet formations to the choreography's own logic for time simultaneously following the logic of David Lang's musical score "Love Fail" and rebelling against it. Lighting designer Cheyenne Sykes recreates lunar cycles and halos.
